Topic: The American Dream in selected fields of the American society
Lk English 12.1/ Caspar/ Hein
How to start
- Inform yourselves about the concept of the American Dream:
- What does it imply?
- What is its historical background?
- What does it mean today?
- In the article Concepts of the American Dream you find helpful links.
- You should work on these tasks no longer than 60 minutes.
- Discuss your findings in your groups and make sure that everybody has understood the main ideas.
- In a next step you need to learn how to write articles in the Wiki, to set links etc.
- In order to achieve this we invite you to practice in the sub-category Übungstexte on the Playground level and write a practice text together with your group mates. You will find some helpful instructions listed on that level.
The Main Task
- Your group task is to produce an article in this Wiki on your special group subject, e.g. The American Dream in Architecture.
- This article should enable the future reader to attain an idea of how the American Dream is still embedded in the American society, here in the American lifestyle, in music, poetry, arts, photography and architecture.
- Doing this you have to consider the following aspects:
- Discuss your topic within your group. You may have to narrow down the topic or set priorities in terms of content. Here are a few examples to give you some ideas:
- lifestyle: fashion, media, design, food, etc. music: traditional, classical, patriotic, rock-pop, black, rap music, musicals, etc. art: paintings, sculptures, drawings, cartoons, etc. poetry: white, native American, black, hispanic poets, etc. photography: landscape, urban areas, portraits, black and white, color etc. architecture: cities, urban areas, rural areas, family homes, monuments, historic buildings etc.
- Do research on your topic using the recommended web sites or others. See List of Links
- All members of your groups should be involved in the writing process by e.g. adding information, correcting texts of your group members, commenting and discussing.
- Make sure that the final product of your group is accepted by each member of your group.
- Include links to pictures, photos, songs, etc.
- By the end of the week your product should have reached a presentable condition so that you can publish it in the GGO Wiki. Don't forget a final check of your article (content, correctness, layout, and very important: a bibliography).
- After the fall break each group will get the task to study the results of the other groups and discuss them or comment on them. A detailed assignment will follow.
